Leadership and Engagement Training
Fellows will undergo a series of training sessions prior to their work placements at City Hall. These training sessions will be developed, and will engage Fellows in skill-building sessions that will develop their understanding of local governance. Led by leaders in the community and leading experts in the field, topics will include orientations to municipal governance, various roles within an elected official’s office, and approaches to civic engagement and advocacy. Fellows will also be engaged in continuous dialogue around the experiences of the wider Filipino community.
Ongoing Mentorship
Our members of the Komunidad (community) and Steering Committee will provide 1-on-1 support throughout the program, and guide Fellows through their personal and professional development and ensure meaningful connection that will support them in achieving their goals.
Paid Internship
Fellows will work as Councillor Aides for 12 hours per week over the course of the 12-week placement beginning June 2021. Fellows will be matched based on their skills and interests, and the needs of each participating Member of Council’s Office. Fellows will be assigned Council Offices in the month prior to the placement’s start. Placement assignment is based on the needs of each office, preferred skill sets, and key issue areas. Fellows will have the opportunity to share their skills, issue area interests, and preferences prior to matching, but are not guaranteed the placement of their choice.
Grassroots Community Project
Fellows will take on a project of their design to address outstanding issues that impacts the Filipino community and beyond. Projects may be research focused, a campaign initiative, or event-based virtually.
